Here at Deep Cove Kayak we have been delivering quality school group tours and lessons for over 20 years.

We are happy to offer special lessons, tour programs and pricing to Community Centres and School groups. The calm waters of Deep Cove provide a comfortable, safe environment for young, first time paddlers. We work with a variety of ages but find that we have the most success with grades 3-4 all the way through to grade 12.

Our kayak and stand up paddleboard tours and lessons are much more than just kayaking or paddleboarding. They are a great way to get your students learning outside the classroom in our amazing environment!

Our 2 hour tour includes a 15 minute safety talk as well as approximately 10 minutes to get the students ready before they get on the water. We have a great team of experienced and passionate guides and instructors whose aim is to make the tour memorable for each and every student!

We also offer lessons which focus more on the hard skills of kayaking and paddleboarding. Paddle Canada certifications can be arranged.

We pride ourselves on being able to customize our school tours to suit the specific learning outcomes that you may have for your group or class. The content on our tours links to a number of different areas of the BC curriculum, just to name a few:

  • Science
  • Physical and Health Education
  • Career Education
  • Social Studies

Our guides are able to focus more on certain aspects of the tour depending on the learning outcomes of your class. For example, we can facilitate programs that are more focused on physical activity as well as programs more focused on the local area – culture, land forms etc.

Generally our guides will paddle the students to one of the nearby islands and back again (weather and ability permitting). Students will be taught basic kayaking skills as well as learning about the local culture, ecosystems and land-forms of the area.

Our guides like to include information about the local first nations people of the area. We are often able to show the students the historical pictographs along the way (weather and ability permitting) as well as sharing a local legend or two.

Programs include 1.5 hour Dragon Boat sessions or 2 hours+ kayak excursions. These programs are not offered on weekends or public holidays. A guided program is required unless qualified on-water supervision is provided.

Deep Cove is an excellent venue for your school or community group day trip with picnic, hiking and park facilities to complement paddling activities.

Our school tours run from April all the way through to October and we can offer some great deals for schools in the quieter months.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like to book a tour with us this year!

Background information on the area of Deep Cove:

Deep Cove is located in the Say Nuth Khaw Yum Provincial Park (aka Indian Arm Park) which is managed collaboratively by the Tsleil-Waututh Nation and the Province of British Columbia. Say Nuth Khaw Yum means “Serpent’s Land” and is in the core of Tsleil-Waututh traditional territory that has always been an area of significance to the Tsleil-Waututh people.

The Provincial Park is a conservation park that protects the shores of Indian Arm, a 20 kilometre fjord that extends north from Burrard Inlet in Vancouver. The fjord was formed over time by glaciers, which left  behind a spectacular landscape featuring rugged, forested mountains, several alpine lakes, and numerous creeks and waterfalls, including the 50-metre high Granite Falls at the northern end of the Arm.
