Course: A complex route involving Hamber and Grey Rocks.

You would think that an important play-off hockey game, rain and cold temperatures would all contribute to low attendance at a Tuesday Night Paddle sport race, but 80 people showed up to what is North America's Largest Weekly Paddlesport Race, held on a Tuesday in Deep Cove.
The West Coast Nordic Biathlon Team, Burnaby Lake Canoe & Kayak Club and Hollyburn XC Racing have all made the TNR part of their summer training. So its great to see a group of young kids coming out on regular basis.
I doubled up with Paul Sabiston to race in a double surf ski. It was pretty fun to have the big engine of Paul pushing the boat. We still did not have enough speed to shake Frenchman, or I mean French Canadian, Jean Rillard who blew our doors off with 200 metres to go. We made a couple of strong pushes to try and shake Jean but nothing worked. Paul and I will paddle the double at Tour De Indian Arm.
The results indicate a good grudge match building between Micky, Rod H, Warren B and Reza. A normally humble but obviously tickled Warren B made a passing comment as he carried his ski off the beach, "beat Micky and Rod, AGAIN" The capitals are my input and not Warren. I mentioned this to Micky and Rod with the desired effect, "Not for Long", "We'll see about that next week"
Jodi Boates teamed up with Katja to create a very strong women's double surf ski crew. Leaving many of the guys in their wake. If you haven't tried the double surf ski you should consider renting it. It is very stable and fun to paddle.
At The Raven the race video captured by long time Deep Cove videographer, Jim Moore, who has just returned from his winter job of ski instructor at Whistler/Blackcomb, showed another neck to neck race which went from start to finish. Colleen Little and Marta Carlucci Vs Silke and Peter Gumplinger. Those four are just a little competitive. No shots were fired.
Tour De Indian Arm is this weekend. Call 604 929 2268 to sign up. The weather is supposed to be great. There will be racers from Van Island, Nelson BC, Washington State, France, San Francisco. It will be great! Long Course 19 km, Short Course 10 Km
