Race: Maple Beach Multisport
Paddle to Belcarra > Run to Admiralty Point > Swim back to Maple Beach > Run back to Belcarra > Paddle Back to Deep Cove
A good night for a swim as we are in the middle of a Super Heat Wave. Tonights race was rife with opportunism, a nice word for cheating. One paddler commented, "I'm not proud of that race, I took every short cut possible." So did others, myself included. Despite the map, despite the pre-race briefing, it was follow the leader on the inside of Hamber Island, Under the Belcarra dock, Swimming back to Maple Beach. Next week urine samples will be required prior to the start of the race because I am sure something is going on there too. The pace at the start of this race was ridiculously fast. Gareth TJ was the guilty party followed by Remmler and Dobrovolny. Pee in the cup please! I could not keep up and I was fully expecting a large wad of weeds to be wrapped around my rudder upon arriving at Belcarra. No such luck, and no excuses!
The run was beautiful up and down with the setting sun at our side. Jack was after me as there had been much pre-race banter, bravado and trash talking. He blew by me on the run and I caught at the swim where he was doing his hair. I ran hard knowing that he would soon be passing me and shining the moon light upon me, but he didn't show up. He rolled his ankle after getting out of the water.
The water was exquisite, but it was here that many people thought that the word "beach" means a rocky outcropping. These people dove in the water and swam directly to shore and ran along the rocky outcropping. Last time I check "beach" meant sandy shoreline.
But hey its not the Tour de France no point in getting bent out of shape over it.
