This 7-day Paddle Canada Level 4 Skills program provides skills and knowledge for multi-day touring on Class 4 waters, which includes surf, currents, winds, limited landing options, and limited access and communication. This course is designed for intermediate recreational kayakers wishing to increase their knowledge, skills and understanding of kayak touring to include open water touring; and, kayakers continuing on to challenge the Paddle Canada Level 2 and 3 Instructor Award and other higher level awards including Instructor Trainer.
Meeting in Tofino, gateway to Clayoquot Sound on the first morning, pack and head straight out onto the coast. You are responsible for your own paddling equipment, camping gear, food, and kitchen equipment. On the morning of Day 3, we'll paddle into Tofino, pack up, and head across the island to the Discovery Passage. We'll spend the rest of the time based at the Discovery Lodge on Quadra Island, a ferry ride and 30 minute drive from Campbell River. The cost of the accommodation is included in the course fees.
This course requires your full attention and commitment. You will challenge your boat handling skills and knowledge in a peer-to-peer instructional setting.
