Course Description:

Distance: 4.5 km
The first Tuesday Night Canoe & Kayak race started off with a nice drizzle that slowly turned into a light torrential downpour. The weather was once again not cooperating but the masses had come to join in the race anyway. It seems that the first race of the year always starts off in the rain. Despite the weather, many die hard racers returned from last year and new ones also joined in the fun. The race was to go to Grey rocks, once around, back to the five-knot can and back. We had a few incidents: Terry Lewis decided to do a water temperature test at the start, judging by the speed at which he got back into his kayak it was too cold; Sam Mottram was left high and dry after ramming a submerge rock at full speed and if Stu Shearer had been paying attention he would have missed it. Overall, the first race of the season was a success with over 50 participants. The after party at the Raven was also a very happening place, with Bob Putnam and Joel Perkins going shot for shot, with neither of them able to drive home after.
Racers have been assigned one of the following categories: Canoe (C), Double Kayak (DK), Fast Sea Kayak (FSK), High Performance Kayak (HPK), Plastic Kayaks (PK), and Sea Kayak (SK). For information on the classification system click here.
