Paddle Section: 5 km

What a great night for a race! Sunny, Warm…summer is just around the corner. What a great night to get wet and get you racers ready for some of the swims to come.

The course was to paddle to the reef at the head of Bedwell Bay. Round the reef and head back to Deep Cove. Once arriving back in Deep Cove drill was to practice a wet-exit. Conditions were perfect to re-enter the kayak. People choosing not to get wet had to do a run up Rockcliff Rd.

If you had a hard time getting back in your kayak imagine how difficult it would be to get back into your kayak if you in-advertently capsized in rough seas. Every kayaker should know what to do when you capsize. Cold water quickly zaps your strength so you want to be as efficient as possible when getting back in. If you want to paddle solo at Deep Cove Canoe & Kayak Centre you need to have completed a Capsize Recovery course. Some outfitters in the Gulf Islands and West Coast require this experience level just to go out solo or in a group. We just happen to offer these courses. Check out the rest of our site.

The Province was here and the race will be featured either this Thursday or next! Adam Hoggard (I think that's his name) did an extra capsize a Jug Island just for practice. We divided all racers into six categories, next week we will add a seventh for plastic single kayaks.

Stroke Improvement Clinic will be next Thursday 6 - 8 PM $10 + Kayak Rental.

Race results are organised under the categories: Canoe, Double Kayak, Fast Sea Kayak, High Performance Kayak, and Sea Kayak. Click on your category to see how you did. For information on the classification system click here.
