Route: 6.5km
  • To the 5 knot can
  • Back to the mooring bouy in The Cove
  • Out to Jug Island
  • Finish between the government dock and Yacht Club
**Half of the field did this route in reverse.

What a night, with mother nature showing her fickle nature. At one point prior to the race start we were considering changing the course but the weather trick us into to believing it would be calm and sunny for the rest of the night. This would not be the case as the skies darkened, the wind increased and the rain fell.

Terry Lewis jumped into the lead followed by Norona and Jerome. Jerome was unable to hang onto Norona's coat tails so he dropped back to the next pack of Kevin, Christian and Bob.

The course was interesting in that when the field split into two you didn't really know where you ranked until the final leg when the field re-converged. Martin Slavy took his kids out canoeing in a torrential down pour what a great dad. I am sure his kids are re-counting their terror of water breaking over their bow with the dad yelling paddle damn-it.
