Birthday Paddle

Well we were graced by the presence of several Living Legends (legends in their own shower that is). Birthday Boy/world famous alpine ski racer, Rich Juryn, was seen tipping a brewski whilst almost tipping his canoe. Quite possilbly the worlds greatest National Sales Manager for Coast Mag was teamed up with world renown blue hair adventure racer Bob Faulkner. Disputed Race of Truth Champ Matt Nuttal who is sidelined for the season with back injury was cheering everybody on. Kick Ass Arc'Teryx Marketing Mgr James Retty took a break to mix it up with the girls and boys in The Cove. Ben Fast was another birthday boy who wouldn't say how old he was. Glad I am not as old as Ben and Rich!

Normal people would have stayed home on a dark April night that threatens rain, but The Deep Cove Paddle Sport Crew was out in full force. My Tuesday night race experience was marred by a training session in a canoe. The short 15 footer refused to go straight (it wasn't my lack of skill or anything, blame the gear) and was taking water over the bow. My partners Joel and Karen bit their tongues as I took the scenic route to Jug Island.

Once arriving at Jug Island Beach the task was to run up the hill to some unknown point and then run back, sort of like moving a pile of rocks and then moving them back again.

Jug Island Beach looked like a east Van London Drugs parking lot on boxing day. Suprisingly no one was killed.

Daryl "T.H." Remmler (ask him what "T.H." stands for) took the top spot followed closely by Greg Inkster. The Raven/Granville Island Brewery provided some good eats, video and beer. Can life get any better??!!

Don't forget about the Stroke Improvement Clinics and the San Juan Challenge in May
