Race to Twin & Back There was a sigh of relief when we annouced paddle only for the nites race. It was obvious we are getting people trained to expect anything on Wednesday. Hardly anybody wanted to know what the event was going to be prior to the start. There was an ugly started with a few un-named people getting a good head start (Mark simpson, Zoltan the barbarian, Rod Hope, Chris Christie and a few other unameables-you didn't hear it from me!) Owen Davis helped me at the start asking for a swig of my gatorade just before Joel said "Go!" Frantically stuffing the bottle back under my bungies (that sounds rude) it wasn't 10 yards before the bottle fell out. After that another guy with his rudder up crashed into me. ( Always use your rudder at the start) Good thing I was in my trusty Looksha and not a surf ski, otherwise I would have been swimming. The pack stretched out and I was able to leap-frog by drafting peoples wakes. I caught Glen Kerr, Mark Simpson & Martin and we worked together. Rounding Twin Island there were 10 girl guides cheering like crazy. Nice suprise, is is amazing how something like this can spur you on. At this point it seemed like we were going to catch Marcia in her tippy surf ski, but she could easily out-pace us in calm conditions. Jockying for position and trying to conserve energy for the sprint. Mark & Martin were trying to stay out of the lead. To ensure this Mark rammed my stern and sent me into a tail spin. This put Martin in the lead. Mark broke for the sprint finish about 200 yards from the finish and it was amazing how easily he could move in his fibre glass boats as compared to our plastics. Martin had a strong sprint and I couldn't keep up with him even with my wing blade. He will definitely be a contender in the "Race of Truth". Sam Motrem took 1st place and up-set fast guy Greg Inkster. Christian Fournier wasn't far behind and is getting very stable on his Speedster. Gordon Corby kicked some serious ass in the Mighty Extreme. Showing his mettle for the S2S. At the end of the race, I was thirsty and cursing Owen Davis, he pulled up beside me with my bottle of Gatorade. What a guy!
