Paddle to Grey Rocks
May 3, 2000 The weather display prior to the race start was impressive. Racers thought we were nuts. "Are you really going to run the race?!" As the clouds broke and the weather cleared there was still a 1 foot chop a start time. The course to Greys Rocks and return via the 5km can and the yacht club would have been straight forward had it not been for the strong ebb tide that was enhance by the outflow winds. The return paddle into the current and wind compounded the pain but the racers gritted their teeth and fought throw it. Daryl "the hammer" Remmler arrive late at the start, but blasted through the pack to finish 2nd only to Paul and Dave. Matt Nuttal put in an impressive 6 place finish. The choppy conditions were challenging for the surf skis but Greg Inkster stayed dry tonight. Ina and Mike put on a flurry at the finish but Doug and Denis held them off to take the finish. Denis entertain the post race social crowd with inverted antics on Dougs surf skis.
