Ice Bears & Islands – An Evening with Jaime Sharp

Ice Bears & Islands – An Evening with Jaime Sharp

We are excited to be hosting Jaime Sharp – adventure kayaker – talking about his incredible attempt to paddle around the Svalbard Archipelago at the Centre for Performing Arts at Capilano University on February 17th, 2016.

Along with two fellow paddlers, Tara Mulvaney and Per Gustav Porsanger, in the summer of 2015 they undertook a journey that had never been completed before. Despite numerous attempts, no-one else had ever completed the paddle, and recent attempts by other paddlers had been thwarted by injury and polar bear attacks. Landet av Isbjørn’ literally meaning ‘the land of the ice bear’ is the name often used for the islands of Svalbard and true to its name, they had 39 polar bear encounters while paddling 2300kms, and 160km’s of unbroken glacial cliff coastline in just 71 days.

Come and hear more first hand on the night, acompanied by phenomenal photos and jaw dropping video. Jaime will have photo prints for sale at the event and has also offered a fantastic door prize of signed canvas prints which will be drawn (along with other great prizes) at the intermission.
